Homemde bhaji

Homemde bhaji

So beside chapatti and some vegetables my host sister made bhaji. It is fried vegetables, typical snacks and it is possible to find it on the streets.
The bhaji had fried onion, spinets and potato. It taste really good, but not that healthy.
Today we will make more sweets.
preparation from Diwali, is just like Christmas for me.

Spice sweets

Spice sweets

Yesterday, we made one more sweet for Diwali. It too 2 to 3 hours and in the end our hands were paining allot. This is sweet is a bit hot, but from the store the sweet is very hot.
This is not one of my favorite sweets, but it is fun to try to make and see how Indians make the sweet. Of course this is also deep fried.

Veg pie for my family

Veg pie for my family

Today for dinner I could finally make something I like from oven.
This is a pie is based on Swedish recipe, but because of I am in India I could not follow the recipe to 100 %. I needed to add some chilly, for Indian taste. The pie has tomato, onion, spinets and capsicum.
my siblings comments it smells really good and we all an not wait any longer.

Sweets are just too sweets

Sweets are just too sweets

Today I went to Camp and met up a friend, how needed to do some work in FRO.
It is crazy how much it cost to travel wit a auto nowadays. From Swargate to Cap with a Auto I would say the price will be around 80 rupees, but with the local bus the price is 10 rupees. That is huge different. I would not recommend anyone to travel with the local bus during rush hour. however, it is no problem to take the bus when it less crowed ie. at 3.

So when I came home, I found Adji (grandmother) and sister making sweets for Diwali and of course I wanted to do Indian sweets. My part of the job was adding the sugar.
The sweets are deep fried and have allot of sugar. A small part of a the sweet taste good.
It was fun/interesting to see how Indians make sweets.

Fresh from the market

Fresh from the maret

Every Monday host dad goes to the market. It is more or less like the farmers market we have in Sweden, but on this market they only sell vegetables and fruits. The market area is huge and it is easy to get lost. However, to get the best vegetables to a good price the buyer has to arrive early in the morning. In the market it is very crowded with people, two-wheelers, mini tractors and sellers
After the market it is time to clean everything, that takes time.
yesterday I helped my host sister with cleaning the wheat, it was my first time. Cleaning the wheat is to remove the old wheat and insects, before the wheat become wheat flour. We needed to clean 5 kg of wheat. It took time, and was not that fun, thanks god I had company. What a work a Indian women has in the household!

Temple at home

Temple at home

This is a small temple at home. The temple is in the kitchen.
They keep the light on always, beside when the lights goes.
It is the mom in the house how writhe the text with a powder. I have tried to writhe A, B, C, D etc. But it was not easy. (was happy if it was possible to the which letter it was).
Every Indian family has a temple, some has a whole room while other has in smaller scale.

corn soup with pop corn

corn soup with pop corn

One of my aunties in India make the best food ever. seriously I understand why I love the food.
But this soup was totally new for me. Corn soup, not the normal one homemade and then we were suppose to add pop corn.
Pop corn in the soup! It was little bit to different from my taste and i enjoy the soup better without any pop corn in it.

A cappuccino while i am waiting

A cappuccino while i am waiting

Yesterday, I went on a Rotary meeting with my host sister. The meeting was for all the students how are interested to go abroad for a year. What we needed to do were to talk our experiences.
What I can say in this blog, I was lucky to come to India and meet really good friends, but also to have two families here. Indeed India is an amazing country, I have never seen a country or culture like India. To be In India as a tourist or a student in the hostel is one thing and live with Indian families are huge different.

After the Rotary meeting, I met my friend and went for a afternoon buffed near ABC farm, KP. The buffed served veg and non-veg food (without any masala).

So, probably tomorrow I will learn how to make some Diwali sweets with my sister.

Bad internet

I am at my host family place in Pune. One of the reason is all my friends have left the hostel and a other one is it is soon Diwali. During Diwali you should be with family.
With the bad internet, I can not update any photos. All my updates will be through my phone and that internet is also very slow.
I will be able to upload photos when I am back in the hostel, probably.
Take care, small update will come.
